Soon enough, the attention will have to shift to locking up some of the guys they already have, namely Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. Guerrero and Bichette each have four years of club control remaining. There’s a sweet spot to negotiations like this, and the Jays appear to be in the middle of it now. Deals for Guerrero and Bichette are crucial, but there were more pressing short-term concerns that had to be taken care of first. The Jays must hope Guerrero and Bichette are more willing to engage, but as the sons of former major leaguers they won’t get pressured into any deal.
