Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, hospitalised last month, is undergoing lung decongestion as well as other “comprehensive measures” and continues to be under constant monitoring , Apollo Hospital said on Saturday. Apollo Hospital had already declared that her treatment would warrant her stay in the hospital for a longer duration. In political circles, however, speculation was rife if the ruling AIADMK would like to go in for a stop-gap deputy chief minister or a minister in-charge to discharge the duties of the chief minister till her return after complete recovery. The 68-year-old chief minister was admitted to the corporate hospital on September 22, after she complained of fever and dehydration. Among others, Tamil Nadu governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan and MDMK founder Vaiko had visited the hospital.
