In a new cover story, Forbes has valued the rapper and business mogul’s empire at $1bn, including real estate and other venturesJay-Z has been named the world’s first billionaire rapper in a new Forbes cover story. The magazine has claimed the 49-year-old’s empire “conservatively” totals $1bn after valuing his various ventures as well as any real estate and his art collection. “Most times rappers end up broke or nowhere,” he said in a 2005 interview when his estimated worth was $350m. Without a label, he started selling CDs out of his car before releasing his first album, 1996’s Reasonable Doubt which has sold more than 1.5m copies since. “If he’s a billionaire now, imagine what he’s about to be,” Swizz Beatz also said.
