Chinese Taipei tennis ace Jason Jung, who gained his Republic of China citizenship only recently, trounced South Korea's Hong Seong-chan 6-2, 6-4 in the men's singles final Tuesday to win gold and help the host team place first in the men's team classification. At one game each in the first set, Jung roused the crowd with a shot down Hong's left side into empty space, breaking Hong. In the women's singles final, Chinese Taipei's Lee Ya-hsuan battled it out with Thailand's Varatchaya Wongteanchai in a grueling 3-hour, 20-minute epic. The gold was especially meaningful for Wongteanchai, who said her journey to the gold had been "wonderful." Thanks to Lee's women's singles gold and the Chan sisters' doubles gold, the host team won the women's group team classification.
