Japanese studies summit opens today in TaipeiTAIPEI -- The 2016 International Conference on Japanese Studies will take place Dec. 3-4 at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) in Taipei, organizers said. The annual conference, which carries the theme of "Japan Studies in the Asia-Pacific New Dynamics," is co-organized by the Taiwan Society of Japan Studies (TSJS), National Sun Yat-sen University's Center for Japanese Studies and NTNU's Department of East Asian Studies. It will bring together scholars and researchers from the United States, France, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, who will discuss Japan's national security and foreign policy under the impact of a variety of external and internal variables, such as North Korean missile threats, territorial disputes in the East China Sea, the China-Japan-Korea diplomatic tensions, the U.S. presidential election, the Japanese emperor's stated intention to abdicate and the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's plans to amend Japan's Constitution.
