Japanese lawmakers are set to form a nonpartisan group to protect people in Hong Kong following the enactment of China's national security law for the city, local broadcaster NHK reports. The two also serve as Japanese representatives of a multinational group of politicians proposing a hardline approach toward China. The new group seeks to protect the freedom and rights of Hong Kong citizens. They also pursue the enactment of legislation that would allow the government, or the Diet, to investigate possible cases of human rights abuses in Hong Kong. Nakatani said the members will work across party lines to help people in Hong Kong and stop human rights violations by Beijing.
