The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant has installed a series of upgrades to keep power running in the event of a quake. Since shutting down the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power station (pictured) and dozens of others, Japan's imports of coal, oil and natural gas have surged.
