Over 20 such drills have been held nationwide amid threats from North Korea. The drill simulated a North Korea missile attack, amid ongoing tensions over the hermit state’s nuclear weapons program. However, drills simulating a North Korean missile attack remain fairly novel. While around 20 similar drills were held in other parts of Japan last year, Monday marked the first simulated North Korean attack in Tokyo. North Korea launched two ballistic missiles over northern Japan at least twice last year, and test-fired another missiles in loft-trajectory into Japanese waters.
