The earthquake hit 57km north-east of Sendai-shi just after 6pm local time with warnings that a one metre-high tsunami could hit. The epicentre in Miyagi prefecture is the same area that was damaged during a huge earthquake and tsunami in 2011 with locals saying the quake sparked painful memories. According to Tohoku Electric Power Network Co., about 200 households in Miyagi Prefecture were hit by power outages. He said: "We have not received any immediate report of damage or injuries following the earthquake and the tsunami advisory. A Japanese Meteorological Agency spokesperson told Sky News that Saturday's quake was considered an aftershock of the 2011 quake.
