This means that Janet Yellen's comments about women in the workforce and a larger economy need to be examined in their detail, not just taken as being true at face value. And I've similarly no doubt that the real economy would expand as well. But I would insist that the expansion of the real economy wouldn't be as much as the expansion of GDP that we would be recording. Instead of mothers looking after their own children they're going out into the marketplace and using paid labour of other women to care for them. But there's nothing there which increases the size of the real economy.
