Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott are running as independent candidates in this fall’s federal election. They made separate but co-ordinated announcements in their ridings — Wilson-Raybould in Vancouver and Philpott in Markham. Wilson-Raybould, who resigned over the SNC-Lavalin controversy, says she is committed to the betterment of Vancouver and the country. But in choosing to announce their plans in lockstep Philpott and Wilson-Raybould set in motion a double-whammy of wild speculation among Canadian politicos. Late Sunday, however, a CBC News report wholly debunked the rumour, citing unnamed sources that confirmed neither would be running with the Green party despite multiple conversations with May about such a move.
