London's first female mayor, Jane Bigelow, known for her determination and advocacy around social and environmental issues, has died. Bigelow, who was a just a week away from turning 93, was London's mayor from 1972-1978. She had previously served terms as deputy mayor and had been a member of the city's now defunct board of control. "For me it wasn't much of a discussion," Bigelow told CBC News during an interview in 2019. Jane Bigelow was London's mayor in the mid-1970s and was often seen riding her bike to city hall.
