NewsThe 'Jana Balaya Kolambata' protest, organised by the Joint Opposition (JO) ended in the early hours of this morning (Sept 6). The protesters have now dispersed and all roads leading to and from Colombo are now clear. While protest organisers made some efforts to try and clear a large amount of garbage that had collected on the roads around Lake House Roundabout and Colombo Fort, a large amount of garbage was still piled up in many areas around the vicinity, the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) stated. Anura told Times Online that extra workers and trucks had to be deployed from early morning to try and clear piles of garbage that had piled up in the area where the protesters converged. These efforts were still ongoing, but the commissioner said he expects all the garbage to cleared from the streets by this afternoon.
