WhatsApp cofounder Jan Koum sold $42.8 million worth of stock in the past week, according to regulatory filings. Since WhatsApp was acquired in October 2014, Koum has reduced his stake in Facebook from 76.4 million shares to 30.7 million shares today. More than 80% of Koum’s fortune stemmed from his Facebook stock a year ago, FORBES estimates; now his ownership of Facebook stock accounts for less than half of his estimated net worth, or about $3.7 billion. Over the past year, Koum has averaged approximately a dozen individual stock sales of varying sizes each month. (In contrast, America’s richest man, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, has only 13% of his net worth in Microsoft today).
