The 27-year-old defensive midfielder has been without a club since leaving Sunderland at the end of the 2016-17 campaign. The former Germany U21 international struggled with injuries while at Sunderland and was released by the club when his 18-month contract expired at the end of last season. Bolton are currently four points clear of the relegation places in the Championship after beating Kirchhoff's former side Sunderland 1-0 on Tuesday night. The Black Cats remain bottom of the table and are now three points adrift of safety following their defeat to the Trotters.
