But if an extra year to prepare was spent with hopes of winning, those dreams were dashed on Saturday night as the UK came last out of all the finalists. UK commentator Graham Norton expressed regret for James as the news came in that his performance had won absolutely no votes at all. James himself, however, managed to conceal any disappointment and offered a winner's smile in spite of his defeat. Next year's competition will take place in Italy as the winning act always brings the contest home with them as well as their award.
