James Joyce’s spectacles expected to fetch at least €15k at auction

The original and iconic pair of pince-nez glasses are conservatively estimated to be worth up to €15,000. George Mealy auctioneer based in Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny said: “The glasses are a tangible link to Joyce and they give the world a vision of what Joyce was seeing while writing Ulysses. For years even the most eminent biographers of writer James Joyce have believed he was severely shortsighted. The electric mix of rare books and manuscripts auction takes place on in The Talbot Hotel, Stillorgan, Dublin.
