Jamaat-e-Islami has said it will press on with a street protest at Motijheel’s Shapla Chattar even if Dhaka Metropolitan Police do not give the go-ahead. In a statement on Thursday, Jamaat called upon all its leaders and supporters to join in the rally on Saturday. The party’s acting chief Mujibur Rahman in an emergency press briefing said Jamaat, as a “democratic and systematic” party, sought a free, transparent and participatory general election following the resignation of the current government and the appointment of a non-partisan caretaker rule, the statement read.
