Jamaat leaders detained on Monday were remanded for a total 10 days, for cases previously filed under the Special Act and Explosives Act, on Tuesday. In a demonstration in Dhaka, Jamaat leaders threatened to stage fierce protests if its ameer, secretary general and others were not released immediately. “The government has taken away the constitutional and political right of Jamaat-e-Islami by arresting and torturing the Jamaat leaders and activists illegally and brutally,” he said. Other Jamaat leaders at the programme echoed Shamsur in saying that the detained Jamaat leaders were arrested to create a leadership crisis inside the party. “The current, illegal government, who came to power without an election, is conducting misrule and torturing Jamaat leaders to stay in the power.
