The CBI has so far examined Mr. Jain twice and his wife has been quizzed once. The agency has alleged that the two were one-third shareholders in the companies in question during the check period. During interrogation, the Minister and his wife were not able to explain ₹1.62 crore, which is about one-third of funds received by the companies during 2015-17, the agency said. Ltd. -- which were not into any specific business, had entered into monetary transactions with 30 Kolkata-based “shell” companies.
