Mr Mahama, a resident of Yala's Yaha district, said that he first learned about his son's arrest from a Line message sent by one of Mr Ibrahim's friends. "On Sept 24, Mr Ibrahim visited a watch repair shop along with his two friends," said Mr Abdulhalem. "While his friends have valid visas, Mr Ibrahim's had lapsed, so he was arrested during a random check." When asked about Mr Ibrahim's reported confession about his links with the IS, Mr Abdulhalem said that it is a simple misunderstanding stemming from Mr Ibrahim's poor grasp of the Arabic language. "I beg all media to present the facts -- all Thai students in Egypt are not involved with the IS, they just want to study,"he said.
