When asked, the minister told the Dhaka Tribune that these vans would be used to transport high profile accused like militants, top criminals, the accused in sensational cases etc. If found effective, we will introduce more such vans to ensure security and surveillance of prisoners movements during transport,” he said. The official also mentioned that while police were currently coordinating movement of the vans, the operational authority of these new vehicles will rest solely upon the Bangladesh Jail authority. Through use of the new web-based surveillance system, authorised officials of the jail authority, sitting in any corner of the country, can monitor the movements of these vans. Of the two vans, one is designed to carry 8-10 criminals and will be used for high profile criminals.
