While the CBRI is yet to table a report, an official said the findings showed that the sand inside the Jagmohan had sunken over seven feet. The 800-year-old temple structure was filled with sand between 1903 and 1906 by the ASI to ensure that the structure stands. The CBRI, engaged by the ASI for renovation in the 13th century building, suggested after the findings that the sand can be extracted without any damage to the structure. The structure can be strengthened by using iron beams, in a manner similar to the renovation work at Jagannath temple at Puri," said the official. Owing to the ASI's renovation work, the structure has been shut to the public for more than a century now.
