Jacinda Ardern has announced free Covid-19 vaccinations for every New Zealander as well as their Pacific Island neighbours. The Prime Minister said she had signed contracts with two more pharmaceutical companies to manufacture the vaccine. The Prime Minister, one of the most popular leaders in the world, was immediately praised on social media following the announcement. Others were more measured, pointing out that New Zealand was not alone in providing the vaccine for free. Ms Ardern has also indicated the government will not be easing border restrictions even during the vaccine rollout.
