The Edmonton Oilers go 7-2-2 in their previous 11 to keep themselves marginally in the race for the final playoff position in the Western Conference. New Jersey not only came to town out of a playoff position but facing mathematical elimination. The Devils were in position, with a loss, where they could be mathematically eliminated in the Eastern Conference. The loss didn’t suddenly put the Oilers on the brink of going down for the final time. Either way, it’s nice to have the Oilers play meaningful games in March.
