JICA assures BD of continuing support


Executive Senior Vice President (ESVP) of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Dr Junichi Yamada has assured Bangladesh of continuing JICA's support for the country's development and sustainable economic growth. The ESVP, who left the city on Friday after a visit, met Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina, the finance and planning ministers, and the state minister for power, energy and mineral resources. He arrived in the capital on July 3 to attend a ceremony for commemorating sacrifice of seven Japanese nationals and ended his visit on July 7 after visiting various JICA-supported project sites. According to a JICA press release, the primary objectives of Dr. Yamada's visit were to attend the memorial ceremony and to strengthen relations with the government on the 50th anniversary of Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Bangladesh, implemented by JICA. Commemorating the sacrifice of seven Japanese nationals in the Holey Artisan attack on July 1, 2016, he stated that contribution of the Japanese nationals in the Dhaka MRT Project was one of the prime symbols of enduring friendly relationship between the two countries.
