J&K data bill doubts

The issue was flagged by the Congress's Jairam Ramesh, who wanted to know what specific data the government was unable to collect from Jammu and Kashmir in the absence of the bill. Members of various Opposition parties took the cue from him and adopted the same line of questioning during the debate on the bill. Introducing the bill, statistics and programme implementation minister D.V. Narayanan wanted to know whether the statistics collected would be dealt with scientifically, adding that data was the new oil for the corporate sector. In spite of the entire Opposition requesting you not to go ahead with the bill, the ruling party is doing so.
