It's time to surface my linguistic angerReuters The discovery of the entry of 'surface' into business-speak made me wonder about the meaning of Bob Geldof and the Boomtown Rats' album "The Fine Art of Surfacing". It started with a tweet: "Do any of your colleagues use the word 'surface' as if it means 'bring up a new topic with a customer'? "I have something I'd like to surface with you," the employee might say to the client during their later meeting. Do any of your colleagues use the word "surface" as if it means "bring up a new topic with a customer"? And so it should have, as a response to whoever it is in the world of big business trying to infuse communications with these arbitrary expressions.
