The Flaxmere community gathers for a karakia to honour the injured boy and other children who suffer at the hands of those who should be protecting them. The Flaxmere community in Hastings has gathered for a karakia for a four-year-old child who was seriously injured in a beating at unknown hands two weeks ago. The boy, who is in Starship Hospital with brain damage and other injuries, had recently returned to the care of his immediate family. Fighting back the tears, community worker Lynsey Abbott said the community was shocked and devastated. Foster said anyone who has had contact with the boy in recent weeks should come forward.
