The Xbox One X — that's pronounced "ex," unlike the iPhone X, which is pronounced "ten" — is a supercharged version of the Xbox One, built to match the performance of a high-end gaming PC at the price of a high-end gaming console. And with all of that, the Xbox One X feels like it's asking some interesting questions both about the future of Xbox and the future of console gaming. The Xbox One X seems, at first blush, like a response to Sony's PS4 Pro, which went down a similar road last year. And perhaps just as important is Microsoft's messaging: unlike Sony's relatively subdued campaign for the PS4 Pro, Microsoft has gone all out to position this thing as a powerful machine for the serious gamer. Phil Spencer's Xbox has made impressive strides at reversing that perception through programs like backwards compatibility, but the Xbox One X is the biggest punctuation mark yet in that story.
