OTTAWA--It is premature for Bank of Canada senior officials to discuss interest-rate cuts, Gov. 2 official would, starting in 2024, hold a press conference after all eight scheduled rate-policy decisions to help households and businesses understand their rationale. Carolyn Rogers participate in press conferences after rate decisions released alongside a quarterly economic update, or four times a year, in January, April, July and October. Macklem, in prepared remarks in Toronto, said that would change as the central bank aims to improve its transparency and communications. The central bank said publishing the rate decision 15 minutes earlier would improve market functioning, and remove a conflict with the timing of the North American foreign-exchange option expiry.
