MILAN—Italy further tightened its nationwide quarantine, shutting down almost all industrial production and offices, as the country struggles to contain the world’s deadliest coronavirus outbreak. Only companies making what the government deems to be essential products can stay open, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said late Saturday. “These are severe measures, I realize that,” Mr. Conte said as he read a statement streamed live on Facebook. Mr. Conte asked people not to buy excessively at food stores because they will stay open and continue to be stocked. “We are doing all this because we love Italy,” Mr. Conte said.
