Lonely Island is less concerned with specifics, though, than swiping at an entire stance by pulling the ground out from under it. And as The Lonely Island revealed in a recent Vulture interview, it can get annoying to be celebrated by the kind of people whose opinions you want changed. You do have to tread carefully with this stuff, though: as Lonely Island themselves recognize with the gay marriage song, distancing yourself from your ostensible message can kill it pretty quickly. You’ve got to be pretty savvy to come across as completely clueless. Such are the pitfalls, though, of mocking the clueless: it takes some doing to make sure they know they’re being mocked.
