Steve Stannard says the benefits of getting more male teachers into classrooms extend beyond schools’ borders. To counter the excess of men in high places, women-only ideas pop up all over NZ: women in business, women in leadership, women in science, even a Ministry for Women. In 2019 in NZ, only one sixth of primary school teachers were male. Along the same lines, having more male primary school teachers would surely provide more positive male role models and attenuate the declining educational performance of boys. Although there are fewer women than men teaching at boys’-only high schools, male teachers at girls’-only schools are as rare as rocking horse poo.
