Last month, more than 100 other family members who lost loved ones in crashes caused by Boeing’s 737 Max met with U.S. Justice Department lawyers in Washington. In the waning days of the Trump administration, the Justice Department negotiated an agreement with Boeing behind closed doors which provided immunity from prosecution to the company. And just days before the scheduled meeting, the Justice Department filed its response concerning remedies again without conferring with us first. What made it particularly poignant was the powerful connection between all the crime victims and the sense of shared purpose. The “Justice” Department would rather give preferential treatment to Boeing than support the rights of the families victimized by them.
