Twitter with permission from Silph RoadEarlier today, Niantic dropped a surprise event into Pokémon GO, making water-type Pokémon more common throughout the world, including some rare monsters like Lapras and Gyrados. There are reports of shiny Magikarp out in the wild, making the first appearance of shiny Pokémon variants in the game so far. Twitter with permission from Silph RoadFor those that don't know, shiny Pokémon are rare different-colored variants of normal Pokémon that first made their way into the franchise with the introduction of Red Gyarados in Pokémon Gold/Silver. Later on, the game introduced shiny variants for all sorts of different Pokémon. Shiny Pokémon dovetail pretty well with Pokémon GO, mostly because they don't have an impact on combat or anything like that.
