OPINION: Why are some Pākehā afraid of the rise of te ao Māori? The most obvious threat to some Pākehā is probably te reo Māori. Is this the fear of Pākehā, that if te reo Māori becomes common they will be somehow diluted? As te ao Māori begins to flex its cultural muscles, some Pākehā begin to feel less and less confident. I also realised I missed te ao Māori, even though I’d never consciously thought about it.
