Two weeks after taking over as the Islanders’ president of hockey operations, Lou Lamoriello put a dramatic stamp on the organization on Tuesday by removing Garth Snow as general manager and Doug Weight as coach. Lamoriello, 75, will become the team’s general manager and will commence the search for a new coach. Snow and Weight will remain with the Islanders in unspecified roles. “It’s my opinion that at this point, there’s a coaching change that’s needed,” Lamoriello said on a conference call. The Islanders won only one playoff series under Snow.
