Sixty years ago, the Organization of African Unity, the predecessor of the African Union, was established. In Ethiopia's troubled province of Tigray, the African Union made some efforts to play a role as a mediator. Nevertheless, talks were held in November 2022 at the invitation of the African Union, ultimately resulting in a ceasefire.
