APPRECIATE the kind messages sent on “Mentors and mentees” (The Manila Times, July 10, 2020). Another, does the boss grant access to his or her boss readily? In our challenging times, I am reminded of the overused and boring cliché every Caucasian boss in Hong Kong would trot out at a time of crisis — that the Chinese character for crisis also means opportunity. Rather than “Bs” the facts or exaggerate the story, analyze the angle and the possibilities and find the vodka approach in case there is one. To me, clichés are mental shortcuts and circumstantial evidence of not thinking hard or caring, whether of the question, response or of the person asking the question.
