United AirlinesEither the airline industry has not been totally restructured in the way nearly everyone in the industry believes it has, or the selloff of United shares on Thursday was vastly overdone. If there is a rising tide in the airline industry, then it lifts United just as it lifts American and Delta. This is not to say that United is rising at the same pace – its recent history weights against that. In the past month, both carriers, seemingly confident of their direction, have invited airline reporters to media days at their headquarters -- and Delta, in particular, has set a high bar. United by contrast has not invited domestic airlines reporters to a media day during the current century.
