The NHL doesn't understand their fans, business, or landscape. They are trying to tighten their grip on what they have to squeeze out every penny and don't realize they are not in a position to do so. For example, it is like Netflix cracking down on password sharing and anti consumer things. They are in a position to do so as the clear market leader. Obviously hockey is profitable, but they have some real challenges they are ignoring to basically try and take a short cut to being "Netflix".
