Yesterday, EU economy chief Paolo Gentiloni did his best to explain what is behind his staff’s less rosy assessment of the Irish economy. Yet many forecasters believe Ireland could avoid a recession. Using modified measures of growth, the Irish economy is set to expand. While public spending is holding up the domestic economy, it is set to slow by around two-thirds on last year, the Commission estimates.
