The celebrations of Cinco de Mayo in the United States of America kicked off on May 5. Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory in 1862 over France, although it is not considered a Mexican federal holiday. However, regardless of history, many Americans view it as a day for tequila and tacos. David Hayes-Bautista, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, published a book in 2012 titled El Cinco de Mayo: An American Tradition. Finally, in 1914, the president, Woodrow Wilson, declared the second Sunday in May each year as Mother’s Day.
