MIAMI — Conditions are still serious and life threatening, but Hurricane Irma is showing signs of weakening. The storm hit Naples and Marco Island as a major Category 3 storm but could soon be downgraded to a Category 2, according to officials at the National Hurricane Center. Meteorologist Tony Reynes says the Naples and Marco Island areas are under a flash-flood emergency due to the potential 12-foot storm surge. “If you don’t evacuate, you could lose your life,” Reynes said. “There are still many more hours to go,” said Mark DeMaria, the acting deputy director of the National Hurricane Center.
