Former frontman of The Undertones Feargal Sharkey (60) has been made an OBE in Queen Elizabeth’s birthday honours. Sharkey is not the only Irish interest in this year’s birthday honours. The youngest person honoured is 17-year-old Richard Collins, who was given a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to the community in Cookstown, Co Tyrone. Comedian and actor Griff Rhys Jones receives an OBE for services to the National Civic Society Movement, charity and entertainment. The oldest recipient is John Haymen (100), who receives a BEM for services to the community in Binsted and Alton, Hampshire.
