Irish people like the euro far more than their eurozone neighbours do. According to a Eurobarometer survey of euro citizens, 90pc of Irish people believe the euro has been good for the country and 93pc believe it is a good thing for the EU – by far the highest results in the euro area. Pensions, labour market and social security reforms came next on the list for Irish people, while 46pc of Irish (and eurozone) citizens believe tax reform is very important to grow the economy. Meanwhile, a slight majority of eurozone citizens (52pc) and Irish people (58pc) believe inflation will go up compared with last year. At 1.6pc in April, eurozone inflation was still below the ECB’s 2pc target.
