Most people expect the pandemic to get worse and only a fifth of voters believe that the current restrictions are too severe, according to the latest Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI opinion poll. The number of voters who say that the Government is “not doing a good job” has surged, from 9 per cent in June to 36 per cent. Just 22 per cent of people believe that the worst of the pandemic is behind us, while 69 per cent say that “the worst is yet to come”. Over a quarter of respondents to the poll (26 per cent) say they are undecided but “open to hearing both sides of the argument”. This poll saw a return to the usual face-to-face methodology, after June’s poll was conducted via telephone interviews due to the pandemic.
