Irish Rich List 2018: profiles 3-15

3 JOHN DORRANCEInvestment€2.6bn (£2.288bn) ▲€100mDorrance, 74, and his Finnish wife Gundel live quietly in south Dublin — a far cry from the Wyoming ranch they left in 1994, moving to Ireland for tax reasons. Their Temple Road home gives few clues to Dorrance’s vast wealth. It comes from shares he inherited in the Campbell Soup Company, the American giant founded on his grandfather John Thompson Dorrance’s invention of condensed soup. By 1996 Dorrance, also known as Ippy, had sold all but a 2.3% stake in Campbell’s, raking in €1.2bn. The Dorrances also have a home in the Bahamas, where Gundel is an honorary director of the Lyford Cay Foundation charity.
