Irish Abroad on coming home for Christmas: ‘I need to be in my home town’

So we have logged in as an “Irish Christmas” near Flensburg, Germany. I want to go back to Belgium for Christmas, but Irish restrictions upon return could jeopardise my studying and exams. The diaspora are an integral part of the Irish identity, stopping Christmas travel epitomises the lack of regard NPHET has for people’s mental well-being and the happiness of the nation. Of course, I won’t travel recklessly nor put my family in danger of contracting the virus, but I also won’t give up hope. I need Christmas in Ireland, this year much more than ever.
